What does SEER stand for? "New minimum 13 SEER mandate as of January 23, 2006 by EPA"
SEER is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ration of your
central air, heat pump or packaged heating / cooling system.
The higher the Seer the more energy efficient your system
will be.
With the new changes in equipment SEER efficiency / performance
mandated by the EPA you must understand that no longer can
your old equipment indoor evaporative coils be applied to
the new 13 SEER Condensers. You will not get satisfactory
performance from your new high efficiency Air Conditioning
or Heat Pump Condenser unless it is matched with the Proper
Indoor Evaporative [DX] Coil or Air Handler. For more information
on this subject please contact us www.jbshtg@bright.net .
Also with the purchase of a New
15 SEER [or higher] Air Conditioning or Heat Pump system you
may qualify for Up-To a $300 IRS Tax Credit. Contact your
accountant!
I have been told 92% [AFUE] Efficient Furnaces are much harder to service than standard efficiency 80% [AFUE] units? Is this true?
No, not in our mind! There is very little difference in the products and the equipment we provide is very accessible for service. Plus you save 10-15% in fuel consumption with the higher efficiency furnace.
What is the advantage of Variable Speed
Blowers over standard AC [115V/1/60 or 230V/1/60] motors? Equipment?
The advantage of Variable Speed motors [Found in 2-Stage heating and cooling units, however we do offer it in our economic line single stage as well] initially provide superior air filtration, total comfort in home with low cost constant air exchange eliminating hot and cold spots! The real savings is when you use a constant blower operation these units are 10 to 20% more efficient in electrical consumption!
What is the difference in the 90%
+ AFUE Furnace and the standard 80% AFUE Furnace?
The 90% + AFUE Furnaces are condensing Furnaces which
provide up to 15% more efficiency than the 80% AFUE
model. The 90% + units have a secondary heat exchanger
designed [drains moisture like an AC system] to capture the
heat from the exhausted flue gases before they leave the unit.
This is heat is applied to your home or office normally lost
to the flue system as in standard vented furnaces. When you
choose this model be sure it is a 29-4C stainless steel secondary
heat exchanger design!
Purchase the most efficient Furnace you can afford, as it
will benefit you in the long and short term. In our Cold Climate
area JBS offers 95% - 96% AMANA Furnaces as well as TRANE
and other Brands as stated at 92% AFUE. The 2-Stage Gas Valve
incorporated with the Variable Speed Blower Motors can save
up to 10% over the standard single stage 90%+ Furnaces. Also
the quiet – efficient - comfort provided by the new
Variable Speed Furnaces are very good. JBS offers a Full 10
Year Parts and Service warranty with them.
What Filter System should I choose for my home?
This question covers a broad area! Our home environment is essentially
the dirtiest air we breathe today! JBS strongly suggest the
highest quality Air Filtration by IQAir. These Non-Electronic
Air Filters are 95% to 99.97% efficient from .3 Microns to as
low as .001 Microns ( which is 80% of the air born particles
we breath each day) depending on the system you need. ( www.iqair.us/home_products.html
) These HVAC Filter Units - Clean Room H13 Units - HealthPro
Plus Units capture particles such as virus - bacteria - and
other filters can not do as effectively as IQAir. We spend up
to 90% of our time indoors at home or work! Indoor Air Quality
is becoming more and more of an issue as we progress! With aerosols,
mold, dust, air born dust mites, bacteria and Virus in the air
we breathe it is important to have a good high quality filter
system. We recommend a minimum 4-5" type quality Media
Air Filter, Electronic Air Cleaner and today Ultraviolet
Light is used for mold - bacteria - virus issues in our
air ( Particles ".3" Microns and above)! Contact us
and we will be glad to explain further!
What is the advantage of applying a Humidifier to my heating system?
We use only quality units and the Humidifier keeps the
RH [relative humidity] at the proper levels in your home.
You feel more comfortable and it keeps wood, furniture and other
items from drying out in the winter heating season. Humidity
level requirements change with out door temperatures. We have
units that self adjust to outdoor temperature changes! Humidifiers
are also a valuable part of a good Indoor Air Quality system!
What are Ultraviolet Purification units?
Several Units are available today and work at different levels
of performance! We can supply what you are looking for most
of the time! However, JBS Heating and Cooling, Inc. / JBS supports
the SANUVOX Series R1500X and R3500X design [several
others also available]. The UV Bulb is design to kill air born
bacteria, mold spores and some virus items floating in your
return air ducts. Our Sanuvox units add the feature of Ozone
to the operation to help remove odors as well from the air stream.
What warranty generally comes from the HVAC equipment manufactures?
Most manufactures today have a minimum 5 Year all Parts warranty
[except Commercial applications and Mobil Home applications,
contact us for more input to this] with a 20 Year heat exchanger
in the standard efficiency [80%AFUE] Furnaces and standard
AC or HP condensers. Lifetime Heat Exchanger Warranties are
offered on 90% + efficiency Furnaces [however be careful
- some still offer 20 years on economic units], some condensers
offer up to 10 Years on Compressors / Out Door Coils / Indoor
Evaporative - DX Coils and Parts depending on the level of efficiency
purchased. JBS Heating and Cooling, Inc. / JBS offers a minimum 5
Years all Parts and Labor Repair Service Warranty on any Product
we install unless otherwise noted. We also have 10 Years Parts
and Labor Repair Warranty on our high efficiency equipment for
your piece of mind!
How important is the duct system in the operation of equipment?
We feel very strongly about proper duct system design. Especially
today, the new equipment is designed on specific airflow through
the unit to maintain the design efficiency and keep the system
form failing on limit switch failures or pressure switch failures.
This also goes back to the quality of Air Filter used and proper
maintenance of your filtering system. We at JBS Heating and Cooling, Inc. offer SPP [Service Protection Plans] for your
piece of mind and maintaining your equipment!
How important is it to have my heating or cooling system checked on a regular basis?
VERY IMPORTANT! First of all if you read the Manufactures
Warranty today [New Units] it is a requirement to have your
system serviced to maintain the factory warranty! Also by having
regular service it has been proven that homeowners and commercial
building owners save up to 15% on energy cost! We offer a SPP
[Service Protection Plan] service agreements that can be purchased
providing the care your system needs. Our SPP Preferred Customers
also receive a 15% discount for repairs needed along with priority
service is a good investment in extending the life and efficiency
of your equipment!
What does AFUE stand for in equipment ratings!
AFUE [Annual Flue Utilization Efficiency] stands for
the efficiency of the fuel-burning product you are purchasing!
It is the stated efficiency from 60% to 98% AFUE on heating
equipment available today! The difference of this number and
the 100% factor is the amount of energy lost in the venting
system to the outside of the home or building.
What is the value of a set back thermostat or programmable thermostat?
Programmable Thermostats come in several varieties today! Some
are 5/2 Day operation which means week days are programmed the
same and week ends [Sat. & Sun. the same]. Also the [7 Day]
Programmable units allow you to set each day separately and
each Thermostat generally has four time changes per day! It
has been written that when used effectively you can save form
5 to 10% or more using these units. We support their use
but make no guarantee as to what the savings will be because
it depends on the individual using it them. Prices range from
$45 to $300+ depending on the application!
